How it Started

WatchPoint started in 1998 in Greg Edwards’ basement, not as a business plan, but as a mission. As a systems engineer, Greg saw firsthand how technology could either empower a business or hold it back. He knew companies didn’t just need someone to fix their tech, they needed a partner who understood their goals, anticipated their challenges, and could build a reliable foundation for growth.

With that vision, WatchPoint was born.

From day one, Greg focused on delivering IT services that were responsive, strategic, and grounded in trust. What began as one person helping local businesses has grown into a team that supports clients across industries, solving complex problems, securing critical systems, and helping businesses thrive in a digital world.

In 2014, WatchPoint made a strategic shift from the traditional break/fix model to fully managed IT services. Why? Because reactive support wasn’t enough.

As cyber threats became more sophisticated and constant, we knew businesses needed more than on-call help—they needed a partner who could anticipate risks, secure their environments, and keep systems running without disruption.

Innovation That Scales

By 2017, WatchPoint’s impact had expanded far beyond day-to-day IT support. As ransomware threats surged, Greg Edwards’ entrepreneurial instincts led to the creation of specialized tools and services that addressed urgent gaps in the market.

One of those solutions—Axis Backup, an offsite backup and disaster recovery service—grew out of WatchPoint’s commitment to business continuity. It quickly gained traction beyond our client base, and in 2017, was acquired by publicly traded J2 Global and integrated into their cloud services portfolio.

But the innovation didn’t stop there.

What began as an internal tool to stop ransomware attacks became the foundation of Canauri, a purpose-built anti-ransomware SaaS platform now used to protect businesses around the world. Fueled by real-world experience and designed to outpace evolving threats, Canauri exemplifies WatchPoint’s core philosophy: solve real problems, then scale the solution.
